Finite Math is a very difficult subject to learn, this book did not help me understand the solutions either. I took this online, which no one should ever attempt. When I discovered this book was not helpful after a month of going to a tutor three times a week to get through this class, I tried to return this book without any type of success. Beware and don't take this class online, let alone take it unless absolutely necessary.

Designed to be accessible, this book develops a thorough, functional understanding of mathematical concepts in preparation for their application in other areas. Coverage concentrates on developing concepts and ideas followed immediately by developing computational skills and problem solving.

This book features a collection of important topics from mathematics of finance, linear algebra, linear programming, probability, and statistics, with an emphasis on cross-discipline principles and practices.

For the professional who wants to acquire essential mathematical tools for application in business, economics, and the life and social sciences.

PLEASE start binding (or whatever the term is) these books!!! They are so expensive and then they rip so easily in a binder. Taping back together the small punch holes is nearly impossible. It can't be that much more to bind the book. It's already a $200 book, what's another $10?? Anyone buying this book is not doing it for the fun of it so make our lives easier and bind the book!!!!

Do not rent if you need the code to MyMathLab. It says it comes with a new code, but only if you buy it new. (One of those little details they make difficult to find until you get the book and the code doesn't work.)

I like how this book is done. Its required for my class at University of Wisconsin in Superior 2015. Sadly the tests are based on the 1st edition I reckon, and some things on the test aren't in the text that I can find. The index is helpful if you get stuck on something, and there are answers in the back for matched problems and odd exercises, but you need the Student Solutions Manual to help guide you through the answers to better understand how they arrived at the answer. Otherwise your just reading it off a page and spitting it back out to the teacher, and not really learning anything.

At least the word problems have some real-world application, especially for science, logistics, and related majors.

This book was formulated with the help of a math program. There are some violations the program failed to overlook in the answers, resulting in a handful of wrong answers to problems in the back. It also skips a lot of steps and doesn't explain how it reached them, which is what one expects from a computer calculated problem.

So don't expect a ton of hand holding when problems are presented, which defeats the purpose of an educational calculus book to begin with. You'll be spending a lot of time crossing out or working through EXAMPLE problems that haven't been fully fleshed out. Good lord.

When I was assigned questions from this textbook I often had very little idea of what I was doing. Fortunately, not only are the answers to the odd questions in the back of the book, but the odd questions are completely worked out in the back of the book. This helped with the even questions too, as many of the even questions had odd questions that were very similar.

I bought this book to help me with my calculus class but it wasn't the one required for the class. I did however obviously buy the book that was required but this one was less helpful. Maybe it was just the author. You can buy it and see for yourself, because different people learn different ways. I did use it sometimes but not all the time.

According to my professor, the answers in the back of the book to selected exercises are not trustworthy. Many of the problems can not be worked out to get the given solution. She said the Mymathlab component of the curriculum is a better option, but was not able to make that happen for our class in time, due to getting the class just a week or two before classes began.
excellent book, easy to understand and great examples. the layout is helpful and the table of content is a great reference source to quickly locate information on specific topic.
