Read chapter ERNEST GLEN WEVER: Biographic Memoirs Volume 71 contains the biographies of deceased members of the National Academy of Sciences and bibliogr. Glen Wever's entire being was aimed at investigations and expositions of the ear. He had little or no interest in social activities or, indeed, in any activities that would detract from his investigative goals. Fortunately, for many of us those goals were aimed at the ear and hearing. The completed books were The Reptile Ear (1978) and The Amphibian Ear (1985). The third book was to be on the hearing of fish but was not completed due to health problems.

Ernest Glen Wever (Author). Wever certainly has his own style/approaches to auditory science. Some results may be questionable (. how well does an extracellular response correlate to actual auditory thresholds, particularly in lizards where hair cell bundle orientation is bi-directional?), tough are fairly intuitive and thus appropiate for those new to the field. That said, the shear amount of quantitative anatomical details presented in this book is astounding.

Tracing the development of the auditory receptor in the living reptiles, he examines the use of a variety of mechanisms and principles of action by that receptor. While some of the material in this book has appeared previously in journal articles, most of it is presented here for the first time.
