For those interested in the natural world of the Great Lakes, the authors present a compact, wide-reaching reference book. Whether one lives in the Great Lakes area or plans to visit the region, the "Great Lakes Nature Guide" offers a lot of information in an uncluttered format. Divided into two major sections, Animals and Plants, color-coded chapters include: Mammals; Birds; Amphibians & Reptiles; Fish; Invertebrates; Trees; Shrubs & Vines; and Forbs, Ferns & Grasses. Each individual entry within a chapter includes an illustration, a descriptive paragraph, and a helpful "where found". There is a Glossary and an Index at the back, along with a helpful Reference Guide for a quick look-up at the front of the book. This is a very handy resource showing the great variety of natural subjects found in the Great Lakes region.

I have needed a comprehensive guide for a few years now and this was just the thing. I have lots of bird guides, but have wanted a guide to all the flora and fauna that was native to Michigan.

The Great Lakes Nature Guide has birds, mammals, reptiles, fish, invertebrates, trees, shrubs & vines, forbs, ferns & grasses all in one book. No need to buy several books on Michigan wildlife. Easy to find what you are looking for.
Handy to take with you on a hike or trip.

This book is an EXCELLENT all-in-one guidebook to have with you in when you're out in nature in the Great Lakes. It's not as detailed as some of the other guides that are out there, but the advantage is that it covers both flora and fauna all in one book so there's no need to lug around 6 or 7 different guidebooks in your pack.

I borrowed this from my library at first but after about a week I realized it was a really great resource to own and ran out and bought a copy for myself. Now I don't go to the park without it!

I purchased this book for my vacation in Michigan's Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. I found it to be a helpful and interesting field guide that my children could also enjoy.
