I was immediately enchanted by the introduction written by Nancy Larrick, a distinguished educator from Winchester Virginia. She is a founding member of the International Reading Association and has compiled 22 anthologies of poetry for young readers (source: jacketflap of the book): The Night of the Whippoorwill is a collection of poems that celebrate the night – old poems from people who sang of the night long before scientists turned their telescopes on the sky, and songs from modern poets caught up in the continuing mystery and enchantment of the night.

A stellar addition to Larrick's many themed anthologies, with powerful illustrations that plunge the reader/listener into a mysterious, moon-washed world.

Singer Nancy Erickson recently received her Masters in Music Education, but live in the KNKX studios, she was anything but a reserved academic. The whip-poor-will is commonly heard within its range, but less often seen because of its camouflage. These birds forage at night, catching insects in flight, and normally sleep during the day. Eastern whip-poor-wills nest on the ground, in shaded locations among dead leaves, and usually lay two eggs at a time. The bird will commonly remain on the nest unless almost stepped upon.

Whippoorwill officially released their first full length album The Nature Of Storms last night. The charismatic qualities and sense of humor each member of the band has enhances the music and the live show experience. The recording is an inspiring journey of well crafted songs from the road and from the heart. The perfect blend of alt rock, folk and blues come to life on every track.
