Flame Lake is typical of her books in this regard. I felt I got to know the inhabitants of the town through these two families and their interactions. But I was surprised to find that the male characters were much more likeable than the women; that doesn’t happen often in novels written by women. Lorna Landvik writes about places and people she's familiar with and creates stories that are believable and unique. Readers assuming light and frothy content based on her titles (as in Patty Jane's House of Curl)will readjust their thinking once they dive in. Her characters are complex, their lives and relationships are somewhat universal and interesting.

Lorna Landvik skillfully weaves each of these stories into one interesting and attention-holding book. Some writers do comedy really well.

A hard-to-put-down novel that finds complexity and intrigue in the simplest of everyday lives and the simple friendships that offer comfort and support. Very clearly character driven, the storyline evolves from the nature and motivations of the people Landvik renders. Lorna Landvik skillfully weaves each of these stories into one interesting and attention-holding book.

She tempts audience members into asking questions with not only her quick wit and dead-on voice imitations, but with Hershey’s kisses thrown with deadly accuracy.

Lorna Landvik is incredibly funny and talented and this book is her monument. I loved her quirky and endearing characters, especially Dick and Darcy-they cracked me up! YOUR OASIS was a better read for me than PATTY JANE, although the latter was a great book as well. I can't wait for her next release in September. I will be the first in line.

'your oasis on flame lake' was the first book by lorna landvik that I didn't like. I have adored all her others so far: 'oh my stars,' 'patty jean's house of curl; 'angry housewives eating bonbons,'etc were all great. they had unforgettable characters that you cared about and terrific plots. with the exception of the kids, none of the characters in 'oasis' was particularly likeable. not up her usual standard.

I loved this novel. It was easy to read, went quickly (good stories always do, don't they?), and kept my interest. It's the first book I've ready by Ms. Landvik, but it will not be my last.

Oasis at Flame Lake is okay, but if you're expecting a book as wonderful as House of Curl, you'll be disappointed. There's just too much going on in this book for it to hang together; I felt as though I ought to take notes or draw up an outline to keep all the plot threads from getting tangled. In some books, multiple points of view work well, but in this case, it might have made the reading easier if Landvik had simplified, stayed inside one character's head, and cut out lots of the side stories. In the case of this book, less would have been more.
Perhaps pass on this one - but DON'T MISS Patty Jane yada-yada...

Was pretty good, I like Lorna, would recommend.

I have been really disappointed in several books amazon recommended, I was getting stuck in a rut! But your Oasis pulled me out of the rut and into the Oasis. Though there were turbentlant times it wasn't depressing. I couldn't put it down. If my boss only knew what I did while sitting on hold.

This was good also. I like what she writes about. I like how she does not focus on some great city, with great, over the top people. Another winner, can't wait to read more books from this author.

I have read all of Lorna Landvik's books and this one was not quite as good as the others. (Nothing beats Angry Housewives. . .) I enjoyed reading it, but I thought some of the ideas were kind of hokey!
