It was an excellent read, just rushed in the ending and your left hanging on Smoke's ranch Foreman Pearlie. Which probably will conclude in the next book.

The mountain series beggining with the first mountain man, was what brought me to william W. Johnstone. I read as many of these as I could find. I then read as many of the Smoke jensen, the last mountain man, books I could find. Then went ot Matt Jensen. All of these intermigle with the characters developed by bringing in Preacher to help develope Smoke Jensen, then bringing Smoke Jensen in to help develope Matt Jensen. All these books have been wonderful reading.

Another great story by a writer that almost sounds like he lived it.

I like the way Johnstone makes Sally a formidable opponent as well as feminine. She is well suited to her partner Smoke

How does he write so many books that are on the same subject and yet I cannot stop reading. I begin with a sample and cannot stop. He writes so you can "fast read" when you think it is too wordy or you don't mind reading every word even when some books have almost identical language in some chapters, not often, but yet so you will know.....but I love his books. I only read Kindle now. I have 2 and my wife will not yet switch, I just do not understand why anyone would hold a 20 oz. book and lose their page when they could have all benefits of a Kindle; read in sunlight, back light so you can read at night and not wake your spouse and the dictionary is great. I had no idea I knew so few definitions. I do think WW Johnston uses some words to try and impress his readers. Buy one and see.
I must add, Amazon is slightly a rip-off on cost and the annual payment to get free shipping. I found a product that I paid for the shipping and it was less than the same product from Amazon with supposed free shipping.

Good book.
I like westerns for a change of pace and this one was enjoyable. They all end the same with the hero hugging his horse and riding into the sunset.
