Down the Long Hills book. Louis L'Amour may never have won a Pulitzer but he was a great storyteller. It is easy to imagine sitting around a campfire and listening to one of his stories.

Louis L'Amour writings pull you into the adventure and the perils that the characters face. This is the second time I have read this book. First time was almost 50 years ago as I teenage girl. My dad, who was a Louis L'Amour fan and read everything he wrote, gave me this book after he finished it. He thought I would like it and I did. Growing up in the 50's and 60's, we watched a lot of westerns on TV, Bonanza, Wagon Train, etc. If you are a western lover, you will never be disappointed with a Louis L'Amour book. 6 people found this helpful.
Although filmed in Utah, both the film and the book take place in Wyoming Territory as the repeated references to Fort Bridger testify
Title: Louis L'Amour's Down the Long Hills (TV Movie 1986). Although not as great as Louis L'Amour's novel, this is a wonderful family western. I'm not sure why Hollywood thinks they must "improve" on a novel in transferring it to film. Perhaps sometimes they feel a story needs more human interest. or sometimes the story changes they make could be due to saving money. Although filmed in Utah, both the film and the book take place in Wyoming Territory as the repeated references to Fort Bridger testify. It is well worth watching and will be enjoyed by many.
