I am a 79 year old man and a little rough around the edges but this book stuck with me. I read many books and rarely romance types but for some reason, probably because of the author, gave it a try about 10-12 years ago. I've since re-visited this book at least three times and just bought a xmas copy for my DIL . She'll get the book as a used copy because I'm into it for the fourth time.

I don't usually read romance stories unless they include a murder. But I read this one when it first came out years ago. I really, really liked this story. I am not kidding about the Kleenex. The writing was great and unexpected that a man wrote it. I enjoyed it as much this time as the first time. Keep in mind the story of the five balls every day of your life. And one today is worth two tomorrow's.

Your talent is unassailable! By the way., your descriptions of the beauty of Martha’s vineyard made this desert-dwelling New Mexican Hearn to be there!

The love story was told from the writings of a woman's diary entries about her husband and infant son. Then there was a tragedy and the husband became involved with another woman. The diary was beautifully written and there was a happy ending. Maybe there will be a sequel as there are 2 love stories going on. I would recommend as a light summer read.

When you read the book you might wish you were part of the diary . There is also shocking sadness that you will experience and I recommend this to anyone . So sweet it gave me a headache; beautiful successful women, a just-too-darling baby boy, the sensitive handsome poet, tragedy and then through pain, the Phoenix rises. Formula. Waste of money and more importantly time. Once i start a book, I finish I- even if it boring or silly - so I understand my dislike, but this was hard to get through. I am not a starry eyed romantic; love does not often triump.

My boss was cleaning up one day and going through a lot of papers and she asked me had I ever read the Lesson of the Five Balls? I said no and proceeded to read the short paragraph. I was floored because I was right in the middle of losing someone I loved dearly with whom I had not spoken with for almost two years due to both of us being stubborn. I shared with my boss at how strange it was that she found this and shared it with me now. At the bottom was the name of this book where the Lesson came from, and my boss thought I should look into reading the book. Well I just finished reading it and it is truly amazing, and a must read!! I have never read any of James Patterson's work before and from what I can gather this seems to have been a little different from his usual work. All I can say is this. I don't believe in coincidences anymore. From another book by another author, Squire Rushnell, called "When God Winks at You", I believe that my boss finding that sheet of paper that day which lead me to read the book is God winking at me, letting me know He knows exactly what is going on with me. Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas wakes us up to what is important in this life, and I believe one can only come away with a little more wisdom after reading this book!

On Sunday morning and asked what I was reading. I told him it was a James Patterson love story. He asked me why I chose to read that particular novel. I explained that I loved the way James Patterson writing make feelings wash over me like I was living the story. Not many writers can do that. Although short, and a little corny, this was just the perfect story for a beautiful, rainy, Sunday morning that leaves the forest and grass multiple shades of green
