Performed by Maria Tucci. Running Scared is Book 2 of Elizabeth Lowell's Rarities Unlimited series, but I was a bit disappointed to see that it didn't quite live up to the enjoyment I got out of Book 1, Moving Target. This is not to say that Running Scared was bad, mind you-it's just that this one didn't tickle my fancy nearly as much as the first one did.

Elizabeth Lowell's latest romantic suspense stays true to formula. Maria Tucci's straightforward narration avoids accents and marked changes in voice, relying on the text to provide information about who is speaking. Tucci's gravelly voice excels in the faster moments of the plot, whether voicing a purr or a growl, as she presents Lowell's main characters, antique gold expert Risa Sheridan and Las Vegas casino mogul Shane Tannahill, who become involved in a case involving murder, purloined gold, and the Mob. . c) AudioFile 2002, Portland, Maine.

It was only two blocks down and one over from his mother’s place. Jesus, she lived in a dump. No wonder she drank so much. Or maybe she lived there because she drank. Socks had made him lock it in the trunk, saying that Joey would freak if someone he didn’t know walked into his private space with a backpack. Full disclosure: this is one of my favorite books. I adore it. Risa is smart, sexy, normal. She's got slight body issues--thank you romance gods!--and a sharp mind for ancient gold. I love the details Lowell puts into all her stories, and the background with Celtic gold here is fantastic. And then there's the hero. Oh fan-myself-awesome, Shane is a billionaire before billionaires were popular. He's sharp, ruthless, hotter than hot, and has this yummy Alpha edge to him when it comes to his curator and ladylove Risa. There's one scene in an elevator that I sometimes reread when I need a quick romance pick me up. Elizabeth Lowell at her best. Read it. Like right now.

I already own all of Elizabeth Lowell's books. This book gave you the background of Celtic and Druid gold artifacts without bogging you down with too much detail. The characters, especially Risa and Shane are down to earth while fighting their attraction to each other. It might be a good idea to read Moving Target to get the background on some of the other characters in the book. It's this book that lays the groundwork for Risa, Shane and Rarities Unlimited who they deal with. All the secondary characters (and they almost seem like primary characters) lend a thrilling story that you won't want to put down. I read the book until 1:30 AM and finished it the next day. The only thing I would have liked better was if there was more interplay between Risa and Shane. These are two volatile characters and the sexual tension between them could have been more intense. Even so, you won't be disappointed with this book.

Book 2 in the Rarities Unlimited books was a great story. The characters were strong and believable. I would recommend this series.

I really like Lowell's characters, they are so real! You will see old friends in this book from other Rarities books although you do not need to have read previous ones to understand this one. Of course, like most of Elizabeth Lowell's loosely tied books you will want to read them all. Don't start this one at 10 at night unless you don't have to get up early!

This is one of Lowell's series. Well not really a series since each book stands on it own, but related to other books featuring Rarities Unlimited. The books are always interesting and with very few exceptions these books are always entertaining. I have all of them and have read them several times.

Looking forward to buying the next book in this series. Will see what it is now and purchase if possible.
This is book 2 in the Rarities Unlimited series, but it is connected to the Donovan series. This is the first group of books I ordered by Elizabeth Lowell. And I enjoyed them so much, I ordered the other series too.
