Al Pope was born in Scotland, and emigrated to Canada at the age of 12. Since 1976 he has lived near Whitehorse, Yukon. He has been a janitor, a labourer, a carpenter, a youth worker, a sled-dog racing champion, a woodcutter, an actor, and is now a full-time writer. His novel, Bad Latitudes, was published in 2004. It deals with the rough and ready life of the Yukon in the late 70s. His column, Nordicity, appeared weekly in the Yukon News for 20 years, until 2014.

His work has appeared in newspapers and magazines. His reading series Four Seasons North Al Pope was born in Scotland, and emigrated to Canada at the age of 12.
