A Moment of Madness book. The first half of the book was fun (though the crime was unsatisfactorily unresolved) but as Charles develops into a wishy-washy mother's boy, I feel rather sorry for Georgiana. I wish she made him beg a bit before accepting him back and just because she had a disastrous London season 10 years ago, you'd think she'd have grown some backbone in the decade since. Spoiler Summary .

AN Amiable Arrangement (Signet Regency Romance). The Defiant Miss Foster and A Highly Respectable Widow (Signet Regency Romance). Diamond Waterfall (Signet Regency Romance). Lord Gilmore's Bride (Signet Regency Romance).

Georgiana Carrington, no longer the ugly duckling she was as a young girl, must decide whether to give in to her emotions and the attentions of Charles Harcourt, the man who won her heart during her first London season

I found it very hard to warm up to the characters in this book. I did not get any depth of feeling from Georgiana that would lead her to abandon the morals of the times and spend a passion filled night with Charles. Yet she did. And on Charles side, I could not find it in my heart to like a man who would proposition a woman after the frightening events that occurred in the inn (a fire set to conceal a theft). He knew her name and never tried to find her. She knew his name and never attempted to let him know of her dilemma.

So off Georgiana went to have a baby, pretending to be a widow - with an assortment of servants, doctor, etc... to tend her. She was pregnant, lonely, missing her sister and who should appear but that love of her life, Charles - who until the end could not bring himself to decide if he loved her or if he could raise the child of another.

Mrs. Thomas (the companion) and Mrs. Harcourt (Charles mother) were the strong women of this book and more interesting than the main characters.

An ok read but no gripping tale - other Barbara Allister books are better.

This story has brought me back to reading barbara allister. I felt drawn to the characters of charles and georgiana. the passion georgiana shows for charles at the inn draws you in. She realizes she may never see him again, but she feels it is worth the moment of madness. I feel it was a rare treat. It is a story I could read again
