Home Ben Okri Dangerous Love. Penguin Books (South Africa) is committed to publishing both established and new voices from all over the African continent to ensure African stories reach a wider global audience. This is really what I personally want to see – writers from all over Africa contributing to a definition of themselves, writing ourselves and our stories into history. One of the greatest things literature does is allow us to imagine; to identify with situations and people who live in completely different circumstances, in countries all over the world.
He saw Keme standing over him. He got up. ‘I’m rushing somewhere but I thought I should come in and see yo. What’s been happening?’. I can’t stay long e at the other road and someone might steal i. Sit down, man, and take it easy. I haven’t seen you for some time. Keme sat. He fidgeted a bit and was clearly uneasy about losing his motorcycle. Omovo said: ‘Do you want something to drink?’. Nothing for me, thanks. Omovo went out and washed his face. When he got back Keme was pacing the room. Why are you so restless?’.

This was my first Ben Okri and I understood why he had previously won prestigious book prizes. He gives a good narration of the scenery - helping the reader understand the different world the characters live in (set in a ghetto in Nigeria). Enjoyed it tremendously - but still felt it was too wordy. Ben Okri goes into too much detail painting a picture that the reader has probably understood.
Dangerous Love is a 1996 novel by Ben Okri set in Lagos of the 1970s. The novel is a reworking of an earlier book, The Landscapes Within. The book is more conventional and realist than Okri's previous works. The subject concerns love, corruption and memories of the Biafran War in Nigeria.
From the Booker Prize-winner Ben Okri: a classic love story set in a country trying to come to terms with its past. An epic of daily life, DANGEROUS LOVE is a story of doomed love, of star-crossed lovers, separated not by their families, but by the very circumstances of their lives. I hope among my novels this one achieves something I have long sought.
