Linda Hogan was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for her novel Mean Spirit. Other books are meant to be savored. People of the Whale by Linda Hogan falls into this latter category, and savor it I did, like a fine wine.
Linda Hogan was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for her novel Mean Spirit. Her other honors include an American Book Award and a Guggenheim Fellowship. She lives in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. When Thomas Witka Just marries his childhood sweetheart, Ruth, they are sure their love will last until the last gray whale sings its final song. They are members of the (fictional) A'atsika tribe, a West Coast tribe that holds the whale sacred, who believe they are descended from the whale. But the old ways are dying.

Narrated by: Stefan Rudnicki. Length: 10 hrs and 25 mins. Categories: Fiction, Contemporary. This book came recommended to me by a friend who knew I loved ethnic history, poetry, whales, octopi and a good story. Balancing these people with the people of the whale of the West Coast American Indians painted a struggle that is within us all; nature and self preservation. I feel like a more complete person having experienced this audible book.
