There is some violence, some suspence, some sex and a decent plot (the latter contrary to the other two Mark Ronson books I've read).

An intriguing fast paced story of the emergence of a "monster" in a small English town. It fits no known category and seems impossible to kill. It was awakened when a pipeline was run under the ground where it hibernated. I liked the characters, especially Richard, Patricia, and Karl.

The book at times gripped you but the lack of separation of different events was confusing. You went from one event into a different one with no warning. I was disappointed.
DireRaven
An interesting take on an old legend.
Rose Of Winds
Good book. Kept me captivated to the point of ignoring everything else!! Late for church, late for dinner, late going to bed!!!
Saberdragon
Tastefully done horror story...

Not a bad write, but not a great one either.
Mostly it struck me as a pale cousin of Dean Koontz's phenomenal novel "Phantoms"
As I said, not a bad story, but if you want the real deal, and a much better book, with much greater depth read Dean Koontz's "Phantoms". It is much along the same storyline, but much longer, more involved, and a much, much better story.

Trouble has come to the small English town of Greysike. A young girl disappears and some residents fear a serial killer is at large. Others wonder if newcomer Richard Finlay has somehow set in motion dark forces his uncle was thought to dabble in. No one, though, seems to think pipeline construction might have woken something old and voracious in the abandoned mines under Greysike.

Ogre is an entertaining, if routine story whose antagonist isn't what some readers might hope for considering the title. The titular threat is not the most original, either, but at least it's not a vampire, zombie, ghost or any other staple of genre fiction. It does have an all-consuming appetite and seems damn near unstoppable, and this leads to an apocalyptic climax.

About the name, Ronson does deliver a credible justification for it involving old Celtic beliefs and the story has the requisite mystery that keeps everything fresh. Fans of monster stories will no doubt find Ogre satisfying.
