CASCA deems himself an almighty God, the Teotec's Quetza, but can he survive the vicious torture and unbearable pain of having a knife plunged into his chest and his heart wrenched out of his body?.

Casca is a series of paperback novels, and since January 2014, ebooks as well, created and written by author Barry Sadler in 1979. The stories revolve around the life of Casca Rufio Longinus, the soldier in the Roman legions who drove the Holy Lance into the side of Jesus Christ on Golgotha, and (in the novels) who is doomed by Jesus to wander the Earth aimlessly, always as a soldier, until the Second Coming. The character is loosely based on the Longinus legend of Christianity.

All my life I have wondered what is death and what is the cause of death. There are many things that cause it, but one, as I told you, is when too much of the body's blood is lost. I believe that the blood is the life force of all. I have experimented with many animals including monkeys, whose bodies are amazingly like man's in their construction. I once let the blood out of one and put back in the blood of another when the beast was close to death as is your lady Metah now. The blood of the second monkey kept the first from dying.

This is the second book of Sadler's Casca Series. This was an early Sadler Casca novel and is accordingly one of the best. He weaves a fascinating tale of vikings sailing across the Atlantic and finding North America in the 3rd century, before sailing south to what is now Mexico and becoming involved in pre-Columbian inter tribal politics. Casca at the heart of the tale, falls in love with one of the women of the tribe and survives a sacrificial rite to become a living god amongst them.

Barry Sadler the writer was a Green Beret and captures the periods he writes about with enthusiasm and detailed description. God of Death proves that. High octane action and aventure on a cinematic scale seldom seen. A must read for anyone, both male or female. The character of Casca is a soldier and killer through and through but he does have some morals of right and wrong although his associates are usually ruthless killers and adventurers.

Narrated by Gene Engene. He was cursed by Jesus on Golgotha, condemned to immortality and the life of a soldier, until the Second Coming. What is Kobo Super Points? A loyalty program that rewards you for your love of reading. Explore rewards Explore Kobo VIP Membership.

As with most of the early Sadler books, this one is a great story of adventure and war. The main premise here is that a band of vikings, led by the main character, reached Central America long before Cortes, and become embroiled in a petty war. Casca's immortality helps him win over the people who regard him as a god but there is a price to pay, as Casca finds out in the end.
This is one of the best book I've ever read.
