I'm a huge fan of the Ashes series. I'm a huge fan of William Johnstone. All that said I have to think maybe this book in this series is where he started letting J.A. Johnstone his niece start writing the series. If you follow his other book lines like the Westerns the same pattern happens after J.A. Johnstone takes over. The writing style is different. WJ is fast moving, concise, light hearted (even in the atrocities in these books.) JA focuses on the bigger picture, as well more into thoughts of all characters present. Much like the western novels this book changes the writing style to more of a... person by person basis, random thoughts are put into print. Characters suddenly change, character views change... some of the history behind the storyline gets confused. Equipment and technology available changes. Do not get me wrong it's still a good book, but if you have read from the beginning of the series you will notice a huge shift in writing styles with this book.

After reading 20 of the Ashes Series books of Wm. Johnstone, the worst I can say is "These should be a MUST READ" for any conservative, even the most minimal conservative, out there! Science fiction,? More like a borderline prediction for the far out liberalist and/or the die hard survivalists. Even though the plot is a way out concept( consider todays news headlines), the series will make you rethink what you may consider could never happen. Do not read one unless you are willing to read them all!! William W. Johnstone's ASHES Series: Complete set of 36. The 34 sequential books plus From the Ashes: America Reborn, and The Last Rebel: Survivor

I've read most of WWJ's Ashes series in the past and recently decided to start from the beginning and read them again from book #1 "Out of the Ashes". I am a huge fan of these books and the series was excellent as it was originally written. However, starting with the book "Flames in the Ashes" the whole series goes to pot. It is as if they were written by someone else. Equipment that was never in the other books is suddenly available, the facts on how the war started change, and there's even references to Bill Clinton! Read all the "ashes" books, but stop before you get to "Flames"

I have most of the Ashes series but was missing a few. This was one of them. If any of you haven't read this series, do so. I can actually see everything Johnstone wrote about eventually coming in the near future. They are well written and filled with action. The books are becoming very scarce and there are even some not available in libraries now.

Battling the bad guys and kicking butt. Ben Raines Rebels would follow him to hell to fight Satan and his Demons and they would win. This is a great series of books that each American should read.

Just when I think there could not possibly be anything else to write about, the Rebels are on another adventure. They meet new people, challenges and find a way to win. Always a colorful read. New readers Read in Series Order
