Texas hold 'em (also known as Texas holdem, hold 'em, and holdem) is one of the most popular variants of the card game of poker. Two cards, known as hole cards, are dealt face down to each player, and then five community cards are dealt face up in three stages. The stages consist of a series of three cards ("the flop"), later an additional single card ("the turn" or "fourth street"), and a final card ("the river" or "fifth street").

The Top 5 Poker Poker Strategy Books. Every Hand Revealed by Gus Hansen (2008). If any book was a must read for all poker players during the 1990s, it was most certainly Hold’em Poker for Advanced Players, first published in 1988, and later re-printed several times since. This entry from the mainstream publishing house Kensington might surprise a few people, but it’s a stupendously good poker book geared mostly for no-limit hold’em tournament play. This is a limit hold’em primer. Since virtually all hold’em played up until 2003 was limit, this book had a major impact on the game and the players who were successful.

I don't like writing a review of this book because I don't want everybody finding out about it, but I believe it is more important for me to express my appreciation to the author for what I have gained from this book.
I own about 60 books on poker. If I were given the choice between (1) tossing all of them except this one or (2) tossing this one and keeping the rest, so long David Sklansky, Ed Miller, etc. I'd definitely keep this book.
If I lost my copy of this book, and I had to pay $1,000 to get a new one, I'd gladly pay that $1,000.
I make use of what I have learned from this book more than any other book. There are some things in Holdem that you can know, and this book covers those things.
The writer works out most of the conceivable situations at the table. But the thing about this book, if you go through, you will be able to calculate the odds in situations that might not be found in this book.
I would say this book is geared towards people who don't like math or who have math anxiety. I say that because the writer works everything out completely--nobody of average intelligence or even of slightly below average intelligence will have trouble with this book.
The writer does not only give examples, but he also has exercises that go along with every sections, and the answers to the exercises are worked out as clearly as the text.

The textbooks on probability have all these symbols and all these formulas, and I have never understood a one of them. The formulas are in this book too, and I understand those formulas now.

I have every single poker math published through 2014, when I picked this one up. None of them are close to this one. I haven't picked up any poker math that came out after this book because I don't think I need to.

Another thing about this book--I have not found a single typo in this book and I have been through it twice. By way of comparison, in the Mathematics of Poker, you'll find typos--I think in the first chapter, but if not the first, you'll find them in the second. (The Mathematics of Poker is a different type of book from this one. If you have had trouble with The Mathematics of Poker, go through this one first.)

I would think everybody would want to go through this book before they ever sat down at a poker table. But if nobody reads it, that is fine by me, but I feel kind of bad for the writer, because it's clear he put a lot of thought and a lot of work into this book, and I would imagine he knows as well as I know what a good book this is.

The focus of this book is solely on calculating probabilities of various hold'em hands. If you are interested in this topic, then purchase this book. I have carefully read the first 300 of its 350 pages, working each example, and have found only one error, and it's a typographical error: on page 182, "1 chance in 192" should be "1 chance in 6.9".

Some hands are very complicated, e.g., the probability of a straight occurring by the river. There are several cases to consider, and the author clearly lays out the cases and the requisite calculations (pp. 86-94).

Each section also comes with several questions and worked-out answers.

If you are interested in learning more about the mathematics of Hold "Em this is the book for you. It gives the theory for those that have a math background but also contains charts and figures to enable understanding your probabilities very easy.
