Lutz provides examples of Double Speak in politics, business, world events, sports, law, and many others areas of interest. A fair comparison would be the similarities between British English and American English. That is until one hears that drivers in England keep their jacks in the boot, and take a lift up to their flat.

The book, "Doublespeak" is a very informative and thought provoking book. The techniques for using the language to mislead and deceive that are described in the book are brilliant and a knowledge of them can be good protection for the rest of us from the people who use them.

I read this during my lunch hour and even though it is out-dated, it was fascinating, interesting and definitely made me more aware of the double-speak in our daily lives. After I finish this, I plan to purchase the updated one. Definitely recommend this to everyone!

I was expecting this book to be more a discussion of the dangers of double speak and the effect it's had on our culture. It does a little bit of that, but is mostly a nonstop list of examples of double speak from different industries. Patent cases, food labels, politics, etc. A lot of it is very interesting, but just exhausting to read. I can't take more than a couple pages before my brain is bursting at the seams. I've been chipping away at it for months, and am about 3/4 of the way through. It's an impressive collection and an interesting look into the past. I just wish there were a little more plain speak.
