I have always thought that the B-52 is one of the most imposing bombers ever. I grew up when this was the major bomber around (late 50s and early 60s), so I have always had an interest in this plane. It still amazes me that it has had such a long operational history, even though the numbers declined greatly from its heyday. According to Wikipedia, "As of 2012, 85 remain on active duty with nine in reserve." Amazing, given that this plane began flights in the middle 1950s, including dropping atomic weapons in the Pacific. From then to now! What a long life for this plane (nicknamed Buff).

This book covers the evolution of the B-52--starting in the latter 1940s to changes in the concept of the plane to developing test models. The book covers the technical features of the plane, its rollout as an operational bomber, the succeeding versions of the aircraft, its weapons, its performance in war--from Vietnam to the Middle East.

The last chapter has a rather lugubrious orientation, speaking of the "decline" of the bomber in numbers and service.

There are many photos of the B-52.

If one is interested in the development and history of the B-52, this work is a good sdtarting point, even though it is somewhat dated (published in 1995).

I have acquire several books on the Boeing B-52 over the years and have always been a little disappointed with them. Guess I am looking for facts and figures along with other info. This book is what I have been waiting for.

Anything written about the B-52 is interesting to read, and this is a great one. My B-52 library had not been complete without it.
