Covers artillery sizes 6-inches and larger used in WW II as developed by the USA, Britain, France, Italy, Germany, and the Soviet Union. Each gun is given roughly a one-page discussion and some photos. There are definitely books around that offer much more detail for individual armies, but this one gives a nice summary of all of them. If you are really interested in artillery of WW II, see: British & American Artillery of WW II (2002 by Ian Hogg); German Artillery of WW II (1997, also by Hogg); Weapons of the Third Reich (1978 by Gander and Chamberlain); and Skoda Heavy Guns 1997, by Prasil). The book Weapons of the Third Reich also includes French and Soviet artillery captured by the Germans.

This book was a good introduction to the subject. I particularly enjoyed the section related to Czech artillery, of which I haven't found a great deal of information in the past. I enjoyed the sections about the artillery used by some of the 'main players' in WWII i.e. U.S. U.K. and German, including the brief overview of the development and nomenclature of the different models. I would have liked information about the nuclear testing programmes involving U.S. artillery, although this is only a minor critical point. Some great pictures will add to the text, especially of the Japanese gun crews. All in all, well worth the money and an enjoyable read.

I purchased this book to find information on heavy artillery used by the Axis Minor forces in WW II. I wish there were more photo's of each artillery piece, but that ok.

Maybe not the ultimate guide to heavy artillery but surely the best I have ever read so far. A good buy for the money you spent
