This book was published in 1969. I was called by the draft board that year. There has been so much water moving underneath the bridge.

The main reason for a reader today to read "World War II" by C. L. Sulzberger is that he was actually a correspondent during the war and could provide first hand accounts when the outcome of the war was in doubt. He stated his premise clearly in the first two sentences. "Triumph in battle offers twin trophies to the victors. Their writers can impose on history their version of the war they won, while their statesmen can impose the terms of peace."

Sulzberger argues that the march toward World War II was a direct result of the treaties signed in Paris's agreeable suburbs to end World War I. To say the least, his argument is not a politically correct point of view now days. That position alone makes many reviewers the hate his book. But, what kills Sulzberger's book for many globalist reviewers today are these three sentences: "Roosevelt was a great man. Hitler was not; but he was a genius, an evil genius. With infallible acumen he was able to discern and use powerful traits in the Germanic soul." Today we are taught that Hitler was a madman, simply insane.

Anyway, my parents lived through the war and my father fought in the Pacific theater. Their verbal descriptions match Sulzberger's words. My suggestion: buy the book and while reading it, hear the stories as if they were told by a lucid grandparent

I use this book for a supplemental text in my Hitler and Nazi Germany class. My students love it. It brings the war to life with its wonderful glossy pictures, timeliness and side bars of information. Plus at $25 brand new and half as cheap used, they love the price compared to regular text books. Very informative, interesting, and full of detail that captures the eye and imagination.

A real gem here. Tons of photos individually captioned contained in chapters with a big writeup each chapter. Simply brilliant!

Virtually the whole book is done in poems. I never did well with poetry so I did not care for it, good history from a sailors perspective.

My 10yr old son love it.
I bought this for a WW II history clas I took. It's not an in depth recount of the war. But, it covers the ground fairly well.
