Oddly enough, this book has turned into my go-to reference for anything British that needs context on the British monarchy and the time of their reign. So, as I watch shows on Shakespeare, historic British homes and estates, even Antiques Roadshow, I turn to this book to put the issues in context of who was ruling at the time. It's hardly an in depth examination of any of the UK's kings and queens, but gives enough to be helpful in improving one's understanding of the time period.

I am into historical fiction, whether it be the meatier books such as those written by Sharon Penman or fluffier historical romances such as those written by Madeline Hunter, and appreciate this little reference book when I need to quickly check a fact or two about British history and monarchy. This book takes you from 600 AD up to Elizabeth II and is a small book so you know you're not getting any in-depth information but it's a good starting point. Another slightly more detailed reference I have is Richard Cavendish and Pip Leahy's KINGS AND QUEENS: The story of Britain's monarchs from pre-Roman times to today. That one is coffee-table quality with glossy paper and beautiful pictures.

This little booklet provides us with a readable and concise history of the Kings and Queens. It traces the successions and the "benchmark" events of the reigns of these royal persons succinctly so the reader can grasp quickly a well-tangled historical record. Like any "concise" review, of course, there is precious little "meat-on-the-bone" beyond a genealogical trace through the hundreds of years of British history. It serves fairly well, however, to trace the "institution" of the British monarchy while giving us numerous teasers for further reading.

Gave this to a home school mom... but for anyone one of the best small two page mostly synopsis of the Kings and Queens of England... there is a bigger book of course. Every entry was funny, sad, shocking and a bit new to me in some way even though I knew much of the information in outline. In such a short version one can sort of see how one personality leads to anther and one outcome to the next.

Great small reference book! I actually had borrowed this from the library and quickly realized that it was a must own book.

This is a neat, fun, informative book for everyone, young and old alike. Facts, information, interesting anecdotes, and superb pictures and graphics. The handy size makes it perfect for kids working on reports for school as well. A super book for a number of reasons, and a great one to have on your shelf, especially if you have kids in school or simply want to know more about British Royalty.

This book is a handy review of the highlights of the British and Scottish monarchies. The illustrations are of good quality, and the family trees are helpful. This book is nice to have on the shelf as a quick reference guide for those moments you are trying to keep your Henrys and Edwards straight.
Excellent little book to help see the lines in an easy manner. Good quick reference with detail.
