Nigel Jones provides a well-backgrounded history, popular rather than scholarly, but because there were so many Freikorps and their actions were local and uncoordinated, the story is choppy, episodic and rather hard to follow.

Eerie parallels with current European and US political events. Violent street actions, large scale immigrant/refugee movements, divided populations, assaults on the forces of the state, a demand for an end to the chaos...sound familiar? Read and understand more of our contemporary situations, and one nation's historic response.

Excellent history of the Freicorps. Gives much insight into the situation in Germany between the wars.

When peope say Hitler came to power just on hatred and the poor economy? The facts are different, as this book reveals. Germany was either going to the communists or to the National Socialists. The high number of jewish communists, leading revolt after revolt, mass demostrations of communists was the real threat to Germany. The Veteran groups put these revolts down for the federal government time and time again. While Bavaria was taken over by communists, in the end the National Socialist won the day and saved Germany from the communists.

THIS IS A EXCELLENT WORK ON THE GERMAN FREIKORPS IN ENGLISH. CULLED FROM VARIOUS SOURCES, IT IS WELL WRITTEN, LITERATE AND TELLS THE STORY OF THE FREIKORPS THAT CRUSHED COMMUNISM IN GERMANY AFTER WORLD WAR I. MOST OF IT IS HERE. A DETAILED ACCOUNT OF THE SPARTACIST LEADERS' LEIBKNECHT AND LUXEMBOURG'S MURDERS IN 1919. THE LATER MURDERS OF THOSE WHO TRIED TO BRING DEMOCRACY TO GERMANY LIKE ERZBERGER, AND THE FATE OF MANY OF THE KILLERS AND BRUTES WHO CRUSHED ANY HOPE FOR DEMOCRACY IN GERMANY. NICE LITTLE SECTION ON FREIKORPS SYMBOLS AND INSIGNIA. ONLY WISH THERE HAD BEEN MORE PHOTOS OF THE PARTICIPANTS FOR THIS PERIOD TO MAKE THE STORY MORE PERSONAL.
