Starting off from the first Saxon King, Egbert, in 802 and running all the way through until present day Windsors . Many of Nigel Cawthorne's books are compilations of popular history, without footnotes, references or bibliographies.

Starting off from the first Saxon King, Egbert, in 802 and running all the way through until present day Windsors (up to the birth of Princes William and Henry (Harry)) I'd say this was an interesting read for any fan of British History and Royalty. There are lots of black and white photographs throughout too which I always enjoy, I do like a picture book as a change from just pages and pages of writing.

People have always been fascinated by the sexual behaviour of kings and queens, princes and princesses - hence the success of the tabloid press. Historically, though, this fascination is not purely prurient - royal marriages, infidelities and divorces have had enormous political repercussions. Unfortunately, down the ages, the British royals have shown a singular lack of sexual restraint. Occupying the centre of the political and social stage, monarchs have always had more sexual opportunities than the rest of us.

Kings and Queens of England is an entertaining account of the larger-than-life characters that have ruled England through the ages. Divided into easy-reference chapters based on the ruling dynasties of England, it follows the fascinating history of monarchs from the first Saxon kings to the Windsors of the present day. I started reading this but am not through. I am concerned about a little bit of the accuracy of some of the facts from the first king I read about. I tried to verify the author's information with someone else who is a professional and research what the author stated as facts. Both of us agreed that the author had printed some misinformation in that chapter. I haven't read all the way through, but now I'm not accepting everything printed in the material as always historically correct.

When I ordered this book, I was looking for another, simpler, all-narrative paperback I'd owned for years but lost to a flood. When it arrived, all full of pictures and asides and coated stock and pretty, I almost sent it back. But then I started keeping it on my coffee table to consult as I watched "The White Princess," "The Tudors," etc. (I get my Henrys mixed up). I've been very happy with the combination of information and gorgeous production values.

I keep this book out as a sort of coffee table book because I love it so much. I use it often as a reference book when I can't keep the Henrys straight in my head. I've often found others who come over end up flipping through the book. It such a wonderful little reference book. It doesn't got into great depth but it is a nice, easy to follow recording of the Kings and Queens of England.

Love the book but hated the shipping method. The paper cover of the book was stuck to the enveloppe therefore damaging it when I tried to remove it...Corners of the book came bent

Love the book, but some joker wrote in tiny print on the spine of my used copy. It now reads "Kings and DRAG Queens of England." I think k it's hilarious, but should have been noticed in the condition of the book (I bought new :-/)
Packed full of historical information. Helps me track real vs fictional characters in books I read.
