For the price Amazon is asking for this book (as of 10-22-06 it's $75.00), better and more relevant pictures of New England are a pre-requisite. I don't care if Tommy Hilfiger authored this book, bad is bad and this book is far from good. The quality of the pictures and paintings are banal and spiritless. As a matter of fact, this book has the look and feel (I wonder why?) of a catalog of someone's new fashion season attire. Hmm...? Not that Hilfiger surreptitiously filled this book with clothes baring his label (although some of the more recent pictures might have models with Tommy Hilfiger apparel), but the arrangement of the book does evoke a feel and quality that says Hilfiger/ Ralph Lauren department store catalog.

The pictures and paintings in this book are often difficult to attribute to New England, and those that are associated with New England are barely of the latter half of the twentieth century. None of the pictures I saw in this book are of contemporary New England and NONE of the pictures I saw captures the intimacy, nostalgia, and consummate beauty of the New England area. I am aware that Hilfiger attempts, to some degree, to recapitulate the historicity of New England and its evolution to what it is today. But that does not excuse the quality and genericalness of the pictures on display here nor does it make it any easier to set aside the fact that pictures that represent the overall beauty of New England exist, weren't used or simply not taken.
