I had taken this book out of the library and never got to finish it so I decided to buy it. Alonzo Cushing is a true hero, standing by his guns to the last. I have not seen a lot written about him in other books that I have read, other than his stand on Cemetery Ridge, so it was great learning about his family and his life. I highly recommend this to both newbies to the Civil War and to those who have been studying it for years.

Well narrated story about this historical commander to read. It is a must for any history buff or Civil War student to read just to have the knowledge of other commanders who fought this war, outside of the usual main name generals. It is intresting reading and one gets to know the diffrent point of view from someone who saw this war first hand as a regular West Point grad ( 1861).

An in-depth look at a junior officer's short career in the Union Army. Well written. Artillery professionals of today will appreciate the parallels with today's service, irregardless of the advances in technology.
GREAT detail !!
