Richard Jay Hutto was the first executive director of the Jekyll Island Foundation

Richard Jay Hutto was the first executive director of the Jekyll Island Foundation. An attorney and writer, he served as White House Appointments Secretary to the Carter family and was Chairman of the Georgia Council for the Arts. Presently, he and his wife and children live in Macon, Georgia, where he is an elected member of City Council. When Their Gilded Cage was published I was so excited because someone took the time to do what I have always wanted to do: study the lives of the members whom were not so famous or well known.

I have been visiting Jekyll Island since I was a child and have always been fascinated by the "ghosts" of the island. Not that I have actually seen a ghost, but I ask myself who were these people and the more I study the history of Jekyll the more I am interested in the relationships among the club members.

When Their Gilded Cage was published I was so excited because someone took the time to do what I have always wanted to do: study the lives of the members whom were not so famous or well known. The book is concise and well-written and I recommend it for anyone whom wants a brief synopsis of the Jekyll Island Club members' lives as well as for anyone whom wants a list of the names simply as an introduction to explore the members in greater detail.
