At the time, I knew it only as the home of people who gave very, very small Christmas tips. 12I know it was never actually called Bilko. 13Bonestell was an interesting person. For most of his working life he was an architect, and ran a practice of national distinction in California until 1938 when, at the age of fifty, he abruptly quit his job and began working as a Hollywood film-set artist, creating background mattes for many popular movies. As a sideline he also began to illustrate magazine articles on space travel, creating imaginative views of moons and planets as they would appear to someone visiting from Earth.

Good book and was a Signed copy. Thanks

A fascinating look at Oregon history through the story of a modest, but tenacious timber enterprise. All that's left of the original mill near Cottage Grove is a concrete slab, but the legacy of the Stewart brothers and the Bohemia empire is evident throughout the state. Recommended for any Oregonian interested in state history, but equally as captivating for those interested in history, business, the timber industry, and human nature.
grand star
It's very informative to anyone not acquainted with the lumber industry, or if you like to read historical books. Having lived in Drain, Oregon (20 miles south of Cottage Grove), I was excited to see names of people I have personally met and pictures of familiar places. Mr. Thoele has done a thorough research job on Bohemia from beginning to end. I ordered this book on May 15, and it has taken almost 2 months to read, so I don't recommend this book for light readers.
