Ever since Adam wooed Eve (or was it the other way around?), couples have been bedeviled by the thorny path of love. Why do all couples have such a difficult time becoming-and remaining-close? Now, for everyone who has ever struggled with the pain of an unhappy relationship, psychotherapist Eileen McCann answers this age-old question in a book destined to become every lover's favorite bedside companion. McCann argues that the thorny path of love is nothing less than a highly choreographed dance that steps around issues of power, distance, and intimacy. With the help of Douglas Shannon's delightful and insightful drawings, McCann charts our unwitting steps in the dance of pursuit and avoidance and shows us how to transform it into one that returns joy and meaning to our lives. The Two-Step is a wise and witty guide to affairs of the heart that delights the eye as it instructs the mind. "I find this book to be a pictorial treasure of how we act, showing the games we play, while trying to hide what we want. Out of these pictures comes a clear realization of what we are doing. With that realization, we can laugh at ourselves and be inspired to make the changes we need to make." - Virginia M. Satir

Best relationship book ever! Simple, few words, yet powerful and fun to read/look at. It's been a staple in my home (and to loan to friends) for 30 years and yet it's still completely relevant today. It reveals the problems and provides a way to break poor patterns.
A book that should be reprinted so that more copies are available. If you want to know more about relationships this is a fun way to learn. Cartoon like. Read it, then give it to your adult kids. Great fodder for dinner table discussions.
A very good book if you'd like to better understand relationships and your place in them, romantic or not. It explains things simply enough that most anyone could understand it, and has lots of illustrations that are nice to look at it. I want to tell everyone about this book.
Genius book featuring cartoon depictions of the many different relationship dynamics that occur when in a co-dependent relationship. A great tool to see yourself and others and move beyond!
I've bought this book for so many people, I've lost count. THE BEST book for simply laying out relationship dynamics in a simple, direct and profound way.
I'm a clinician myself and MY therapist recommended this book to me when I came to him with relationship issues. As a book it is both simple and profound. Those looking for a more detailed and specific depiction of the dynamics inherent in relationships should look elsewhere. However, my experience with people and in relationships leads me to believe this book has an incredibly simple, encompassing and insightful perspective. The one thing lacking is more specific information on how to take the next step once the underlying patterns described in the book are thoroughly explored. I'd recommend this book to anyone whose been baffled by the difficulty many of us experience in relationships (familial, romantic, friendly). I'd also recommend the following: Sit down with your partner, friend, relative; ready the book together; discuss...
This is a fantastic book that although done with cartoons is right on. I think the information is really true but said in a funny way.
Enjoyed the pictures. I could laugh at how silly we humans are.
