Too small to get full benefit. Size not mentioned that it would vary from normal book size

Useful and practical and simple to understand and use as a model.
But, no one shuld attempt Pilates without a competent teacher, use the book under supervision

The book was highly recommended, and I know it is very good but this is a miniature, and that was not clearly stated. So it is useless to me as I can't see or read it.

Joyce Gavin, a Certified Pilates Practitioner, Personal Trainer, Fitness Instructor, did an excellent job in writing "The Book of Pilates." It is a guide to improving body tone, flexibility and strength. Prior to reading this book, I was already a Pilates practitioner having attended private Pilates sessions once a week for four months using Pilates equipment such as Reformer, Ladder Barrel and Exercise Ball, and subsequently Mat Pilates classes at the gym. I keep this book handy to guide me when I'm doing my own exercises at home. I love Pilates...it is an indispensable part of my exercise regimen. I can attest that Pilates has greatly improved and maintained my body tone, promoted my agility, balance, vigor and strength from the inside out. Thanks to Joseph H. Pilates who believed that true well-being is achieved through a combination of physical fitness and positive mental attitude. There were times at the gym when I challenged myself if I could workout continuously, non-stop for hours. And I did it! I started at 5:30 in the morning and finished at 10:30 A.M. (5:30 - 6:00 warm-up on Elliptical machine; 6:00 - 7:00 Cardio Strength Interval Class; 7:15 - 8:15 Treadmill; 8:30 - 9:30 Power Yoga Class; 9:30 - 10:30 Salsa Class). When I told my friends about it, they were amazed and asked me how I did it. My one-liner answer was: "That's Pilates body!" At my age, I could still put up with those exercises and have high energy level to be able to continually workout for long hours.

This book is one that I definitely recommend not only to beginners but also to advanced practitioners. Joyce Gavin was very thorough in covering a complete exercise program for warm-ups, introductory level, beginner level, and advanced level.

She also touched on the history of Pilates and its founder, Joseph H. Pilates, who was born in 1880 in Germany and migrated to the United States in mid 1920s. He and his American wife set up an exercise studio in New York and introduced the Pilates method of exercise to American people. Now Pilates is recognized all over the world as a "holistic approach to physical and mental health and harmony." Pilates died in 1967 at age 87. He stayed fit and healthy until his death and he left behind one of the most powerful exercise techniques for the body and mind.

P.S. For more of Pilates resources, I also recommend the following:

The size of the book is less than 1/2 the size of the one I borrowed from my heighbor, so I was surprized it was so small.
