Over 3 million women give birth each year in the United States and face the daunting task of dropping their unwanted leftover ""baby weight."" As a mother of two young children, a certified Spinning instructor, and founder of the Hot Mommy Next Door, a web source and consulting service for mothers of newborns and young children, I wrote The Hot Mommy Next Door to fulfill the endless and compelling need that moms of newborns and young children have for simple, clear, and concise information on getting back into shape after pregnancy that suits the time constraints of raising children. Written literally by the mom next door who has gone through two pregnancies and two rounds of reclaiming her body back, The Hot Mommy Next Door maps out a blueprint for success and takes the guesswork out of making smart choices both of what moms need to put into their mouths and of how often and how much they need to exercise in order to achieve their personal best.

I ordered this book over a year ago, right after I had my son. I read it then promptly threw it in the trash can. The author spends a great deal of time telling the reader how awesome she looked right after having her children, and talked about all the compliments she received after she had her kids because she "looked so good". This, she says, is what prompted her to write a book....gag me. Then, she goes on about how she was a size 6 (if I recall) and decided to work really hard in the weeks after having her kids to become a size 4. OK - by that point, I was really sick of reading to this woman's dribble. We all know that if you exercise and diet after having a baby, you'll lose weight. But, I was a breastfeeding mother who had undergone a tremendously difficult labor and wound up having a C-section. It took weeks and weeks just to be able to function normally. Also, having a baby completely destroyed my thyroid (which, I'm told is more common than one would think). So, what I was really looking for was a book that would give me some sound guidance on eating a proper diet and safe exercise program. I didn't want to starve myself or work off all the calories I consumed because I knew that my child's health would then suffer. I've known mothers who have done this and the result was a super skinny child with slow development issues. So, ladies...don't waste your money here. Find a better book or talk to your doctor.

This book is NOT for breastfeeding moms! I purchased this book hoping it would have good advice on how to lose weight, but the tips offered by the author are not nutritionally sound - she continuously pushes artificial sweeteners, 10 calorie snack packs, and whey protein drinks instead of whole foods. She is NOT a dietician, and her advice is written solely on her personal experience of losing weight after having kids - starving yourself of calories and good nutrition will result in losing weight, but also with detrimental effects on your well-being. These detrimental effects are more pronounced when you are breast feeding and supporting the life of your newborn - restricting your calories and nutrients while breastfeeding will result in your body stores of nutrients being robbed, and possibly leading to failure to thrive in your infant if she is not getting the nutrients she needs. I found a MUCH better book Eat Well, Lose Weight, While Breastfeeding: The Complete Nutrition Book for Nursing Mothers by Eileen Behan, who is a registered dietician and has nutritionally sound principles for weight loss.

Do yourself a favor if you plan to breastfeed, do NOT waste your money on the Hot Mommy Next Door, it is a terrible book!

If you know anything at all about health, nutrition, and fitness, this book won't tell you anything you don't know. I bought this expecting some secrets of post-pregnancy weight loss to be revealed and am sorely disappointed. The book reveals nothing more than common sense about what to eat post partum and provides poorly-written motivation about exercise. It reads like a rambling diary entry and half-assed self motivation book ... Maybe this will help you if you've never counted calories or exercised in your life prior to giving birth.

This book does what it promises. It will help you lose weight if you follow its priniples, but honestly it is just another example of...burn more calories than you take in and you will lose weight. Here are the problems that I had with it. First off, it is geared towards new mommies, yet only skims the surfaces of breastfeeding implications...I get the impression she didn't breastfeed because she is not well educated on the topic. Many of the principles in this book are not healthy for breastfeeding (whey protein is made from milk and soybeans...too much soy isn't considered good for breastfeeding babies). Secondly, I found that the book advocated the use of artificial products (i.e. crystal light and spray butter) WAY too much. Finally, it seemed to really stress "whey protein" as a "way" of life. I have nothing against whey protein and even use it myself here and there, but if you are a natural person, whey protein may not appeal to you. For example, I am looking at the ingredients for a GNC bottle of whey protein and they are as follows..Proprietary protein blend (whey protein concentrate, whey protein isolate, hydrolyzed whey peptides), artificial flavors, lecithin, acesulfame potassium, cellulose gum, xantham gum. Doesn't sound natural and "perimeter shopping" to me...

If I had known these things, I would not have bought this book. I think I will stick with weight watchers.

WOW! What a revelation! Alison's information is eye-opening, fun, joy-filled, plus, it's relatable! For example, after every line of the intro, I found myself saying aloud, "That's ME!" Plus, Alison is FUNNY!!!

So many people give you information -the wrong information - from covers of magazines you see at the supermarket, to pop up ads on the internet. Yup, I know, I've tried 'em all. (Acai berries, anyone?!!!) But the only program that truly has works ladies, is, let's be honest - good ol' diet and excersize. And Alison will only tell you the truth. Why listen to anyone but the mommy who has been there, done that? Alison knows her stuff. She is a pro and expert in both fitness and nutrition, and has a sound foundation in how a woman's body works and the secret formula to unlock the mystery of turning your bod into a fat burning machine! And she is SO INSPIRING!

Also, if you are a mom, daunted by lack of time, you might be thinking, How the heck do I have time to read a book? This book is for you - short, sweet and designed to get to the core of the matter in one or two sittings. Keep in on your nightstand for inspiration.

I would recommend Alison's amazing book and coaching program to any mommy who wants to feel healthy, young, vibrant and sexy once more. Alison's book is a gift to hopeful mommies everywhere that they too, can lose the weight and achieve their pre-pregnancy weight. Thank you, Alison, for your inspiration, generosity
and knowledge!
