Feng shui did not however become dinner party conversation until the late 1980s, and Lillian Too did much to popularize it in the 1990s. However, when interest in feng shui did finally gather speed, because of the lack of source material, many well-meaning teachers and writers seemed to forget that it is a really pre- cise and exacting subject, and extended it in ways not originally part of its traditional Chinese roots.

This book is great. It is written by a well studied Chinese woman who researched her material quite well. It is loaded with clear illustrations on every page with good explanations for each. It is written in clear English and in a great style that is easy to understand for those native to the U.S culture. I'm only half way through it but have learned a lot. In fact, my Chinese wife and family have a close friend who is a Feng Shui master and he agrees with what I have told him I've learned so far, like "get the mirrors out of the bedroom". This book teaches you how to recognize good and bad Feng Shui. It also helps you organize your living or work environments to nutralize or eliminate the effects of bad Feng Shuu, and enhance good Feng Shui. The goal here is to create posting living and working environments to create good luck, health, prosperity and relationships. Have you ever walked into a place that felt "good", or likewise, a place that felt "bad"? You are feeling the effects of the Feng Shui of that place. This book will help you understand why a place feels good or bad. It comes from the energy that flows in that place. This book is a little over 200 pages and the information it provides is quite concentrated. My only complaint is that it is not longer.

I have most of Lillian Too's books; and have bought at least as many to give as (usually housewarming or engagement) gifts. This is a good book to start with - explains many of feng shui's precepts. There is a lot to learn, but it is worth it. Feng Shui can help one improve one's life, by directing and redirecting positive and negative energies in one's environment.

Works for me.

I've read a number of books on FengShui, and found this book beautifully illustrated. It offered many details about the background and different types of feng shui methods, which while informative could be very confusing to a beginner. I agree with the other reviewers that although it was reader friendly, it offered few or too brief solutions and the possible need for another book. Perhaps her smaller books would be good companions to this one. Just-A-Note: At the same time I bought this, I also ordered CREATING SACRED SPACE with FENG SHUI, Learning the Art of Space Clearing by KAREN KINGSTON. After reading both books, I consider SACRED SPACE to be a must have, a book that should always be the first feng shui book anyone reads. It can change your life.

This book does not seem to be americanized. It has the feng shui tips that you can't understand, the ones that are old and authentic, like the most auspicious direction to face for personal development.

I had this book years ago and lost it. I was thrilled to find it available. It is well written and laid out so that a novice like myself can understand and follow it easily. Very informative and thorough.

I guess she had this book before but lent it out and never got it back. She asked if they had it on line, found it for her and she thought it a good price.
This book is a very interesting read. It is hard to get a straight picture of what feng shui is and how it relates especially in the Western Hemisphere. I recommend this product and this seller.
