For most women, sexually addictive and sexually codependent behavior are intertwined

For most women, sexually addictive and sexually codependent behavior are intertwined. Sexually codependent behavior reflects basic female conditioning in our societywe are taught that a woman's power is in her sexuality, yet her sexuality is often controlled by men. Thus, sex can easily become a basic form of barter: it is the price many women pay for love and the illusion of security. The addicted woman, seeking a sense of personal power and an escape from pain, may use sex and romance as a high or as a way to feel in control, just as an alcoholic uses alcohol.

I have not finished the book yet but am working through it with my therapist. Many women suffer from low self worth and low self-esteem, therefore cover the problem with addiction and/or sex. From what I've read so far it seems to help with my self-esteem issues and my alcohol abuse. I cannot find the right man, This gives me hope that I someday will pick someone worth keeping!

I thought this book would be good, if maybe a bit outdated, but I was floored by how amazing it turned out to be. I'm also shocked to find that this book is as relevant today as ever and does not suffer even though it was published over 20 years ago. I have read other things on the subjects of codependency and sexual addiction but this approach is really revolutionary and so very accurate. It makes connections between some seemingly conflicting parts of codependency and addictive sexual behavior as well as other aspects of life, behavior, and thinking. I am eternally grateful for having discovered this awesome book. This information has given me amazing new insight, renewed hope, and is without a doubt life changing.

Really helped me realize that while I wasn't an addict I was displaying addictive behavior. If you're worried about your actions and whether you have a problem I'd highly recommend this book.

I first found this book at the library. I liked it enough to buy a copy for a friend of mine. The problem is not that the book is written badly....On the contrary, it is an engaging read that convincingly presents its case. The question is: What is your objective?

The book has a heavy feminist slant and the author alludes to her own embrace of lesbianism. If you wish to heal without blame while finding tools for living in a fulfilling relationship with a man-this is not it.

I bought this book for a friend who was recovering from an abusive divorce. After reading it myself, I assumed that the author's personal sexual preference would have minimal impact on others seeking healing. For whatever reason, these powerful words proved to be a type of catalyst for my friend's subsequent rejection of men. Instead of this helping my friend heal and learn from the past, I have seen a deterioration. Her personal issues remain unresolved to the point that she has gone from being abused by a man to being abused by a woman.

All human beings-especially survivors of abuse are vulnerable to the power of suggestion. If you are having a conflict with your sexuality, this book will justify any inclination to reject men. For my purposes, this book did not help to lead a person back on a path towards healing.

Hopefully, with this additional insight you can make an informed choice.

I have had trouble with a friend whom I expect has a problem with sex addiction and that is why I purchased this book. So far, I have read only the first 30 pages and already I can see that I have the right book. I can see all the behaviors and their explanations laid out right in front of me. I think this book is just the right tool to help me understand the problems that confront me.
I sometimes work with people who are struggling with codependent behavior or sexual addictions. This is the book I most often recommend and I also think it is a great reference for professionals such as psychologists, personal coaches and psychiatrists.

In one very good book, Charlotte Kasl provides an excellent, easy to understand model for understanding these issues and how to overcome them. She illustrates these principles with just the right amount of relevant case histories and does it without using a lot of jargon.

This book is solid, but very readable and the author develops her topic with deep compassion. If you are only going to buy one book on this subject, I would go with this one. If you are looking for an uplifting book to compliment it that is not just a restatement of what many other books already say, then I also suggest AWAKENING IN TIME by Jacuelyn Small. She takes a very spiritual which is a synthesis of many schools of thought both East and West perspectives.
