The one huge beef I have with this book is the insane amount of typos in it! There's about 1 per page, which is a serious problem.

I'm using this book to study for my Ph.D. candidacy exam, and it's extremely useful. It definitely is more theoretical, with general proofs, etc., mainly focusing on elasticity, with some plasticity and fracture mechanics. I would not recommend this book for a civil engineer (you might check out Craig, Mechanics of Materials, for a good intro beam book).
The one huge beef I have with this book is the insane amount of typos in it! There's about 1 per page, which is a serious problem. It's a shame, because it otherwise is well done, but hard to trust because of the amount of minor typos that should have been picked up in proofreading. I wonder if the authors were in a hurry, for some reason, to get this one out?

I've really only started reading this book, but I was inspired to write a review because I've come across a shockingly large number of typos. I don't mean silly mistakes like misspelling words in the text (which is actually written well), but rather errors in the equations that are seriously confusing. I'm 14 pages in and already I've found about a half dozen such errors. Equilibrium equations with duplicate terms, figures with the wrong differential element labelled, and the last straw was an example problem where the final step in their proof reads, essentially, -1+2/3=0 (it was supposed to say -1+2/2=0, which took me a few minutes to figure out). Extrapolating, I expect there may be hundreds of such mistakes in this book, which makes me leery to use it for material that I don't understand very well. An added annoyance is that on some pages the print quality is not good enough for the subscripts to be readable, though from flipping through the rest of the book I see this may only be a problem towards the beginning of my book.

On the other hand it does seem to have a lot of worked example problems, and the textual explanations are reasonably thorough and are a good supplement to the other solid mechanics book I use. These are the two reasons that I purchased it to begin with, and so I'd say it still has value. It also looks handsome on my bookshelf.
