If I were the author or any of the persons mentioned in the production credits, I would be exceptionally embarrassed to have my name associated with this book.

Although the book was "set" (production supervisor Pamela A. Pelton) at the McGraw-Hill Professional's Hightstown, N.J., "composition unit," the print appears to be about 150 d.p.i. In other words, a cheap $100 laser printer would have done a MUCH better job. Legibility is a publisher's #1 priority, and this publisher has failed miserably.

The illustrations and photos are terrible. Many appear to be 50th generation copies, or worse. Most photos are hard to discern what is what. Old engineering drawings are simply scanned in without any evaluation and modification. For instance, drawings have many extraneous distractive elements which add nothing for the reader, such as dimension lines, center lines, etc. Also, exploded views and their callouts are simply sized to fit the page, instead of the other way around. So many drawings and their callouts are way too small for the amount of detail. Add the poor print quality, and you can imagine how unpleasant it is for the reader. Many illustrations are completely useless due to being reduced so much in size from their original.

If you find passive voice annoying, DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. There is little variation from passive construction. Furthermore, there is little attention to paragraph construction, with many paragraphs dozens of sentences long. At the sentence level, many sentences seem to be arbitrarily chopped up to make shorter ones.

I had been looking forward to studying this book cover-to-cover (as I just did with "Shipboard Electrical Power Systems," a book I was very impressed with), but the labor required to read the poor legibility will not make it a pleasant undertaking.

Philip Kiameh has done it again. This handbook contains all the essential components of electrical equipment. Its' detail illustrations and examples gives the reader a comprehension view of electrical equipment.
The book starts with the basics of machinery principles and then provides details of transformers, motors, generators, fuses, circuit breakers and variable speed drives. Philip provides excellent tips on the maintenance and troubleshooting of each equipment.
I would strongly recommend this book for design, operations and maintenance personnel.
This textbook was selected for the 2010-2012 power plant technology AAS course program. The text is way too small and the photos are also hard to discern.

Although this textbook is very detailed and theoretical in nature for a first time PPT student is is horrible to understand. Especially if you have no lecture's and are a online student!!!

This textbook should only be included as a pre-engineer course and not first time learners.
