Great book though a little on small side. But it covers the topic well and has great photos.

He this is a pretty unique little book, not much written about the German project late in the war the Maus. I like the pictures. I am glad to have this nice little book.

Not enough technical writing about the Mause.Video of it would have been a good and interesting material with it.A little more technical writing and firing tests along with armory testing if they had been conducted would have been intresting.

As the title suggests this large format books not only covers the Maus but other German heavies. The intro talks about the VK heavy tank series that led to the Tiger I and others. That started with the VK 3001 ordered in 1937 as a replacement for the Pz. IV. Work was done by Henschel and Porsche. That was modified to a heavy tank with the VK 3601. The Henschel vehicles featured small interleaved road wheels which would later be adopted by the Panther and Tiger series. The VK 3001 chasses were turned into tank destroyers known as the Stubborn Emil. An order came out for an even heavier vehicle that led to the VK 4501 (P). This was the competitor to the Henschel one that would become the Tiger I. The VK 4501 was converted into the Elefant tank destroyer. In 1942 the Wehrmacht asked for a further progression of the Tiger series. Porsche came up with the VK 4502 (P) which never got pass the drawing board. The turrets were built however and used on the first 50 Tiger IIs. Porsche was later contracted to come up with a cheaper alternative to the Panther and Tiger running gear. These were installed on some Jagdtigers and could be produced in less than half the time as the original chassis. The Germany army was never satisfied and by 1941 wanted tanks in the 100-170 pound range. In 1941 Hitler ordered Porsche to create a 100 ton vehicle that would become the Maus. In 1943 there was another re-think that would lead to the E series which were to standardize all the German tanks from lights to heavies Only the E-100 moved forward past plans.

There are pictures and drawings of all of these vehicles with informative text and captions to go along with them. Although the Maus is in the title and pictured on the cover it is only one part of this collection Even so the pictures are very good and there are large number of the Maus prototype going through trials.

Overall, for such a short book this is very good. There are nice pictures and lots of information conveyed.
