This timely volume provides a complete guide to designing and implementing personalized curricula for K-12 students with moderate and severe disabilities. The author delineates a comprehensive assessment model that provides a framework for pinpointing educational priorities, planning instruction in specific areas, and evaluating student progress. Emphasizing the values of self-determination, family-centered planning, multicultural awareness, and educational accountability, the strategies presented are teacher-friendly and data-based. Case studies in every chapter illustrate the educational needs and accomplishments of students with a variety of disabilities, including autism, mental retardation, severe behavior disorders, and multiple disabilities. Further enhancing the practical utility of the volume are sample assessment notes, reports, and instruction plans; inventories of key skills in different domains; and descriptions of commercially available instructional resources. Included are more than 15 reproducible forms. An ideal undergraduate or graduate-level text, this is also an invaluable resource for teachers, school psychologists, and other special education professionals.

Very well written and informative book for anyone that wants to get into the field of teaching students with Moderate to Severe Disabilities. The book has up to date statistics and teaching practices that help those students be a part of the public education system. I really did enjoy the assessment pieces. It helped me get to know my students better and arrange my lessons according to their needs.

This was a textbook required for one of my graduate classes. A dense heavy read that can take some time to get through, but the information is helpful and very relevant to the topic at hand.

Personally I am unsure why we had to buy this required text in the first place. Our instructor said that the information in it was outdated, so she used her own information in lecture instead. I would not recommend purchasing this book-if it's outdated, why buy it?

I found this book to be of value. As a special education major with an emphasis on children with severe disabiities I found there was a lot of information in this book.
But due to the style of writing contained here, it is more of a reference book than something a student can use to gain quick knowedge of their field.

The textbook arrived very quickly. The condition of thsi product was marked in good to like new. After one night of using this book the binding came apart. It looks trashy carrying around book in two pieces. I would have rather spent the money at the bookstore on a book that would have lasted through the school sememster and had a better resale value.
