I'm pretty good at multiple choice, it's knowing what they want in the written portions of the RICA that makes me nervous. Having one general overview book on RICA concepts plus this book is helping me to feel more confident going into the RICA.

This is the study guide I have purchased to help study for the RICA exam. It pairs nicely with "Ready for RICA." The study guides in this book have helped me tremendously. I always take them and then review what I have not fully understood from my Ready for RICA text. This was a great and helpful buy.

This text is helpful as I study for the RICA. Writing essays in response to the many cases in the text is very good practice. Since I haven't taken the RICA yet I don't know if the cases are similar to the ones on the actual test, but they seem realistic and there is a lot of variety. I do recommend this book if you are studying for the RICA.

However, considering this is the 4th edition of this book, it is a shame there are so many errors in it. I noticed errors on p 38, p 42, p 55-56, and p 62, and there may be more but I'm not finished with the book yet.

I have never written a review for anything until now, but I really wish someone had told me this before I purchased the Kindle version of this book.

The book itself is great: detailed, informative, helpful, etc. The Kindle version of the book falls very short in how it presents the assessment data. As anyone who is preparing to take the RICA knows, being able to analyze assessment data is really important when dealing with case studies. Unfortunately, when this book was converted into Kindle format, the assessment data is so incredibly small that the text is virtually impossible to read. I understand that when a print book is converted into an ebook, sometimes certain aspects of the original formatting are compromised. However, I am really disappointed that in this case, these sections of the book are unusable. Zooming in doesn't work. Pulling it up on your computer doesn't work.

You're only saving yourself about $1 if you go for the Kindle version and you end up with a mildly helpful book. Save yourself the trouble and go paperback for this.

This book really did help me pass! It had been three years since I failed the RICA twice and got discouraged. I read it along with Ready for Revised RICA by James Zarilli. I felt I took a crash course of how to teach reading by reading those two books.

Just found out I passed the RICA on the first try! This book helped me with the essay questions and case study. I also supplemented this book with Beating Them All, Creating Literacy Instruction for All Students, and Revised RICA by Zarrillo

Two MAJOR weaknesses: 1) student assessment forms that the case study write-ups are based on are often hard to read, & 2) there is no material related to how to interpret student assessments. Unless you already have a background in interpreting various types of student assessments this is a grossly deficient resource in terms of trying to prepare for the RICA.

The book I received was poorly and unprofessionaly photocopied which really disappointed me. I could not read the print of the case data without a magnifying glass. Some of the pages were not clear and were missing letters in words . Since I needed this book in order to study for my RICA exam I had a really tough time reading the pages, I even tried to use my iPhone to take pictures then blow up those pics to read them. I really hated the way you did business this time. I was very unhappy and disappointed.
