one of those old-friend reference books you wish you never threw away - classic old school ed-psych circa 1968 - easily understood from a behavioral or cognitive-field perspective as it offers an (almost cookbook) linear-sequential teaching model based on instructional objectives, assessment and student "readiness" (which are still in vogue) as it conforms to the Robert Glaser instructional psychology teaching model, tho it is not clear if he actually studied under Glaser; the text covers the simple incontrovertible basics quite well & serves as a nice refresher when faced with "why did they do that?" & "what can i do now?" situations; the author apparently was a somewhat self taught scholar of ed-psy since his major grad work was in other unrelated disciplines. Professor emeritus at SFSU, De Cecco's later scholarly interests departed from ed-psy & teaching technology, & he was described as becoming a "pioneer of sexuality studies (just google him), but that takes nothing away from the reference value of this early text. This book was well & succinctly reviewed by Robert Ingle in the Journal of Teacher Ed back in 1968 (V:19-4)... to be sure, thousands of ed-psy research articles & books have since been published, so a student of the discipline will always be seeking knowledge updates along with validation and/or corroboration of the tenets & extensive bibliographic sources in this book; imho, it seems that about every 20 yrs a new crop of grad students sally forth with "new" ideas that could have been positively influenced by a substantial research of literature that had included this text & it's sources.
