If you are looking for a way to increase students engagement, then this is the book for you! There are lots of books out there on teaching comprehension strategies, but none that make it this fun and entertaining for students. Lori's techniques of using funky characters, props, gestures, engaging visuals, and meaningful activities hit every learning style in grades K-5. The DVD is excellent. How many times have you wanted to see a great teacher in action? The DVD shows exactly how Lori's techniques work in a lesson. Even if you have been teaching comprehension strategies for a while (and, frankly, are a little bored by teaching the same thing over and over again), you will be re-energized by this book.

The ideas and examples in this book are great! However, the handouts and printables that are referred to in the book are only available on the CD, and the CD is old enough that it will only work with Windows XP. We have older computers at school, but couldn't find any of them that would open the CD. The only way to get copies of the handouts that we could find is by enlarging the thumbnails in the book - not satisfactory. If you can get past that, the book is a good resource.

This is a wonderful book, with lots of great ideas. I only received it last week and have already used and shared some of the great ideas with other teachers. I love how the author takes the think-aloud a step further and uses "graphics" or "props" to help visual learners. The DVD includes great class posters and graphic organizers that support the text. This is a resource that teachers who are real "hams" in the classroom will love, because of the use of drama and music, but any teacher no matter what her teaching style can find loads of great ideas!! Well worth the money.

Great, practical book! I am a reading specialist and I can't wait to share this great book with the teachers at my school. There are practical lessons and I love how she uses multi-sensory techniques to teach the essential comprehension strategies. This book should be on teachers' bookshelves!!
