To earn the Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) designation, you must pass a multiple choices exam administered by DRII affiliates or by Prometrics. This exam (which has a new version released in mid-Feb) has a lot of questions that ask for your "best decisions" - of the hundreds of questions you will encounter in the exams, a significant portion of them requires that you pick the best possible options. These best options are often based on experience and best practices not easily found in the standard exam text books. There are also plenty of questions on concepts and theories. Our CBCP/ABCP Study Guide goes the expert-advice way. Instead of just giving you the hard facts, we also give you information that covers the best practices. With these information, you will always be able to make the most appropriate expert judgment in the exam.

Pros: I just took the test and the manual seemed to cover at least the topics I had on the test. The topics were at a 30,000 foot view. At least it attempted to give you the edges of what could be on the exam so you could better determine if there was an area to be delved into more completely on your own outside the exam book. The overview sections were far better than the exam questios. The overview sections had reviews of terms that proved to be the most valuable part of the exam book.

Cons: It would appear that the manual was separately written by different authors and combined into one document. Some sections flow like they were notes taken from a DRII course and even quote the instructor, some sections are taken from other sections/areas/courses and quote pmbok / project management principles. Almost like the section was taken from another exam book they offer and modified slightly. It makes it hard to flow from section to section and maintain a single philosophy to organize the information into one thought process. The proofreading left a lot to be desired. Because the manual was written with much emphasis on risk (e.g. calculations and formulas) I felt like this was a very high priority on the test. I know there are two different tests that are distributed and perhaps the other test had that information but I didn't have a single question on risk calcluations, risk avoidance, etc. Finally, there are no multiple answer questions (e.g. choose all that apply) on the exam. There is a single answer required. It would be helpful if the test questions reflected the test philosophy - again I was looking for something to put me in the flow. Most questions are "List the elements included in "X"" and then you would read the answers and of course it was all the items are part of item "X". The DRII test I took used clever wording like which one is NOT part of this and then each line had the term stated slightly differently. For those actual exam questions, and there were a heavy number, the terms that were listed in the overview sections proved to be more helpful than the test questions. It got to almost be a joke when the definition questions came up you didn't even have to read the possible answers to know the correct answer was "A B C D all apply". If the authors would spend a bit more time on the flow and consistent format and not being so lazy on the test questions, this could be a very good manual.
Freaky Hook
I bought this book awhile back and finally had an opportunity to start prepping for the CBCP. This book was clearly thrown together. Its content is lean, format is poor, and I question the individuals writing it understand the CBCP content at a SME level. This appears to be a book for easy money. Sorry, but I challenge the authors to justify the high price too. My suggestion to CBCP exam prepares is to use their experience and the results of a good training class to ensure they are prepared. By the way you won't find an author's full name, bio, and their credentials in the book, why???
