Democracy is used by us in a value-free manner, in other words, not counterposed to liberalism as we are otherwise wont to do. It involves simply the following conceptual constituents: publicly (constitutionally) recognized political pluralism, formally free citizenry, the trend towards an increasing political equality.

In this work, the authors analyze the causes of recent changes in the vocabulary of present-day politics, summarizing the result in the term of "the postmodern political condition". By examining whether the postmodern debate has any relevance to practical politics today, they re-evaluate concepts which have been in the centre of debates for many years. The text focuses on a variety of processes, including the breakdown of the political narrative - identified by some as the end of ideology - the forms of morality which can operate within democratic politics today and the role of political, social and cultural movements.
