com - This text presents a totally nursing-focused framework for teaching and learning nursing pharmacology, and "places the patient" at the center of all drug and drug administration decisions and considerations.

Geared toward the nursing-pharmacology student audience and presented in a readable and clinically applicable style, the text implements a prototype approach and effective pedagogy. Chapters begin with objectives, feature critical thinking scenarios, and end with review questions. Color concept maps and drug summary tables enhance the text. Three additional features are "Lifespan Alert" -- within "Memory Chip");"Focus on Research"; and, a Web alert offering relevant links. Content includes strengthened drug coverage --with Canadian drugs; increased physiology; and expanded pathophysiology.

Usually a textbook would be hard to read. This textbook isn't one of them. I would say that this textbook has been easy to read, even if the subject matter is tedious reading for me. However, the way the textbook has been formatted makes the reading flow smoothly, and I didn't feel the "textbook boredom" that I sometimes get when I read through a textbook. I will say that there is the requisite grammar errors that the authors/editors might not catch, but they weren't so much that they detract from the subject matter. Overall, this textbook is one of the best that I'd gotten assigned to me through my educational years.

This book has been a great help as I didn't have separate pharm course in my AAS Nursing curriculum. We studied drugs by ourselves instead. The book gives you physiology of body system and pathophysiology of some diseases at the beginning of each chapter. Prototype drugs are described in detail, drugs closely related to prototype and drugs different from prototype are given later. The authors give you little MEMORY CHIPs for each prototype medication, which is great.

This text is very well organized. Every chapter starts with an overview of the relevant physiological concepts. They present a Prototypical drug for each class and then compare/contrast the other drugs in that class against the prototype. The amount of information contained in the book is overwhelming (due to the nature of the subject), but the easy to understand layout and consistent use of tables and figures make it much easier to digest. The explanations of how the drugs work are clearly written. The only drawback is that it doesn't contain a glossary, so I need to keep a medical dictionary nearby while studying.

This book is very informative and is set up in a way that is definitely organized and helps you remember key facts. It is broken up into four sections focusing in pamacodynamics, pharmacotherpeudics, pharmacokinetics. definitely recommend for Pharmacology in Nursing!
