As intended by William C. Harvey, this book and the 3 CD's are a fun way to learn some Spanish. I am very happy with my purchase of Spanish for Gringos with Compact Discs. I needed extra help with the, "Communicating in Spanish," class I am taking.

As intended by William C. I am still enjoying the products. They are great for the non-serious student who just wants to learn some useful ways of communicating with Spanish speakers. I will say, not in criticism, but in honesty that I have been in Spanish classes up to a low, intermediate level. Having the discs help reinforce the lessons and speed the learning process.

As intended by William C. Harvey, this book and the 3 CD's are a fun way to learn some Spanish. I am still enjoying the products. They are great for the non-serious student who just wants to learn some useful ways of communicating with Spanish speakers.

I will say, not in criticism, but in honesty that I have been in Spanish classes up to a low, intermediate level. I have since studied on my own for over a year.

There is enough left out of these products, that if I had had no Spanish, I think I would have been lost at times beyond the 1st CD.

Having aired that opinion, the book and the CD's are charmingly put together and I would highly reccommend them to anyone with a curiousity about the Spanish language. If you memorize certain things, you will surely be able to speak enough Spanish to get by. Personally, I'm a demon for punishment and I'm delving deeply into Spanish grammer right now. It's a hobby, in lieu of playing Bingo or cards. It's wonderful brain candy for a person of some years :)

Thank you Mr. Harvey. I am very pleased with your work.

Spanish for Gringos was an interesting and entertaining Book (w/CDs). I was looking for a book to help me get started on relearning Spanish. Almost 20 years have passed since I took a college Spanish class and I wanted something light and different from the usual college textbook. This book was a good choice. Be warned it is a book you will outgrow, but it is a great starter book. You will not get bogged down in grammar. You will learn quick, useful phrases. The only area I disagree with the author is that he states pronunciation is not important at all. As a speaker of Japanese as a second language, I have to disagree with that. Pronunciation is important (a good reason to get the CD version), but it should not be the primary focus on learning a language. The best way to improve your language is by jumping right in there and try to communicate with Spanish speakers as much as possible. Just keep in mind if they can't understand your pronunciation then it doesn't matter how much vocabulary you know.

I needed a quick get me by book to learn spanish for work. This book is the best!! The CDs are extremely helpful as well. For the price, you can't beat it. Just enough grammar to get you by, but lots of common sayings that apply to many situations and todo hombre (everyone).

I love the casual style, the amount of information presented and the conversational style.

Do yourself a favor and get book two as well!!

I am very happy with my purchase of Spanish for Gringos with Compact Discs. I needed extra help with the, "Communicating in Spanish," class I am taking. The instructor likes to teach from this book. Having the discs help reinforce the lessons and speed the learning process. Our instructor said he would not teach the course if he couldn't use the book, Spanish for Gringos. Spanish for Gringos with Compact Discs

This book is a good start to learning Spanish... the kind of Spanish you need to know to get around. It's also very enjoyable to read.

Great book. Great study aid. I used it in parallel with taking a college Spanish class. Taking the CD's along with me on walks, it reinforced and added to the college class vocabulary. Highly recommended.
I used this book to learn Spanish before it came with cassettes or CD's, so I can't comment on that aspect of this package. However, I highly recommend this book for anyone who speaks no Spanish and wants to be able to communicate with Spanish speakers, but does not need to speak textbook Spanish. As someone who spoke absolutely no Spanish (besides taco and margarita), this book is the only one that worked, plus it was fun at the same time. Instead of spending time learning how to conjugate every single verb, you learn simple phrases and then simple forms for constructing sentences that will enable you to carry on a conversation in no time. If you can conjugate "to be" and "go", then all you need to know is the verb's root and you have the past, present and future tenses covered. Instead of learning both the formal and informal form for verbs, pronouns, etc., the author wisely advises you that you'll never go wrong using the polite form, and then you can pick up the familiar form later as you converse with your Spanish speaking friends. Plus, the author is a great cheerleader and confidence builder. This book is the best, and it really works!
