If you love movies and want a solid, slim introduction, start here. Then rent, watch or buy Marks Cousins' "The Story of Film". No, not the book, the TV series. There is only so far a book about film can go, and this book is it. Beyond that, you really need to see the films themselves, and no book can do that.

Average at best, this book tries hard but could use more citations to easily accessible films, especially the hard-to-find shorts and experimental films. If you can't see them, what's the point of discussing them?
