I've owned 501 Spanish Verbs paper edition for years and found it very helpful. When it looked like it was formated for Kindle I bought that one too. It's good but it has some flaws. The complete introductory grammar discussion is easy to read. The "501" verbs are easy to access and easy to read.

But the other two indices have been a problem. In the paper book you can use the English Spanish verb index to look up English verbs, find the equivalent in Spanish and see where the conjugation is. Also you can use the 2,200 verb index to look up Spanish verbs not included in the 501 for a short definition and a similar 501 dictionary entry to help you conjugate it.

In the Kindle edition it's easy to use the Table of Contents to get to the first page of these indices. But to actually use them you would have to page through, page by page, until you found the word you want. There's no way to search for anything except the 501 verbs.

I got around this problem by creating a "Note" at the beginning of each letter in the two indices. When I want to look up an English verb, I "View Notes & Marks" and can page through quickly to the right area.

What the book really needs is two more searchable "dictionaries". I hope that if it's ever developed the upgrade will be available to us, the pioneer users.

Note: I've made my Notes public so you may be able to use them to access these indices with having to enter them yourself.

Look in Section 4 Principal Parts of Some Important Spanish Verbs, go to the end of the section and read the text in the box headed TIP. About 3 sentences from the end you will see "Don't forget to check out the 501 Spanish Verbs online audio downloads." Those last 3 words are a link, when I clicked it I was taken to Barron's website, page titled "Online Bonus Content". I had to accept the terms and conditions, then click on the link for the specific book I bought (this one). This took me to a page where I had to input answers to questions taken from the book so they could verify that I actually had the book (questions like who was the subject of verb number 120 in section X, etc.). After successfully answering those questions a page loaded with a list of audio file downloads in mp3 format. I downloaded the entire list (All Audio Files.zip) and also listened to each one individually without downloading by clicking on the linked file so it played in the browser.

The book is excellent, but I gave it 4 stars only because the description states that the e-text version I bought can "create digital flashcards instantly" but I have not found any way to do that. If anyone has, I hope they will post how to do so here!

I never could use the CD. You have to go on line and enter the password written in the book. The on screen says to type in what is on page 904 or whatever. Half the time the last page in the book is about 500 and it asks for the word on page 902. Tried contacting them but they said to look at the word on the top of the page. Sure. Then when it finally gives you a page, like 125, you write down the top word on the page and it tells you it is wrong. Did this 5 or 6 times a day for about a week with no luck. The online people who are supposed to help must have a different book or are reading off a piece of paper. The book is good and would have bought it just for the verbs.

This is a fantastically useful book. Just in the first few minutes of reading I learned more about the rules of conjugation than I have in the past year. I highly recommend that anyone who gets this book read the introduction before just using the book as a quick reference. I bought both the Kindle version and the physical copy a few months ago, so I always have it handy.

I bought the book at the suggestion of a Spanish language instructor. What he said made sense -- you can get by with just a few words in Spanish. You can point for nouns if you really need to. But verbs? You really can't do anything without verbs. They're the backbone of a language.
