If you're familiar with other "Chronicle" books, you know the format. A large coffee table book filled with photos and artwork, alongside a month-by-month chronology. This history of Film starts in 1894 with the pioneers of the art in France and England. There are countless color reproductions of posters, and B&W/color stills from the movies, articles on film releases, actors and directors (both famous and forgotten), the movie industry itself, and technological changes. The first 200 pages alone are dedicated to the Silent Era. International films are given plenty of attention too.
