Ages in Chaos is a book by the controversial writer Immanuel Velikovsky, first published by Doubleday in 1952, which put forward a major revision of the history of the Ancient Near East, claiming that the histories of Ancient Egypt and Ancient Israel are five centuries out of step. Ages in Chaos represents the kind of provocative read one needs to stimulate one's own thinking. In this book Mr Velikovsky compared the Bible's historical events with those evidenced in particularly Egyptian sources but also other Middle East sources. it is based on the ancient literary sources (of which modern "scientists" are hopelessly ignorant, and to which they are ideologically opposed). Immanuel Velikovsky (1895–1979) was a Russian Jewish psychiatrist who in later life immigrated to the USA and embarked upon a second career as a self-styled iconoclast, polymath, and 'intellectual heretic' with some gobsmackingly unorthodox theories. Ages in Chaos (1952) was the first in a series of books where, to the derision of pretty much every archaeologist and ancient historian in tenure, Velikovksy attempted to single-handedly rewrite the chronology of the Near East. His starting point was that there was no generally accepted date for the Exodus from Egypt.
