Plato's Alcibiades presented for students and scholars of Greek. Contains:(i) The Greek text of Plato's dialogue Alcibiades. Denyer argues that Plato really did write the Alcibiades, and his view is becoming more common than it used to be, though many still reject it. Even those who consider it spurious, however, have come to acknowledge the dialogue's value as a piece of writing in the Platonic tradition.

The First Alcibiades or Alcibiades I (Greek: Ἀλκιβιάδης αʹ) is a dialogue featuring Alcibiades in conversation with Socrates. It is ascribed to Plato, although scholars are divided on the question of its authenticity. In the preface Alcibiades is described as an ambitious young man who is eager to enter public life. He is extremely proud of his good looks, noble birth, many friends, possessions and his connection to Pericles, the leader of the Athenian state.

The Alcibiades was widely read in antiquity as the very best introduction to Plato. In spite of its ancient reputation, many modern scholars have thought that the Alcibiades is not by Plato and it has therefore lacked a decent commentary. This edition remedies that situation. The notes explain difficulties of linguistic, literary and philosophical detail. The introduction includes a discussion of the dialogue's authenticity, and of the consequences that acknowledging its authenticity has for our conception of Plato's intellectual development.
