He was appointed to the Yale faculty in 1923 as an instructor in Philosophy, and later was named professor in 1932. One early claim by Northrop in Ch. 2 of "The Meeting of East and West" was that Eastern Thought in general (really most applicable to Chinese thought) deals with the world as an undifferentiated aesthetic continuum.
